Melamine, also known as cyanuramide, is a triazine-based nitrogen-containing heterocyclic organic compound. It is a white monoclinic crystal at room temperature, almost odorless, slightly soluble in water, and soluble in organic solvents such as methanol and formaldehyde. Key characteristics: 1. High nitrogen content: The nitrogen mass fraction is approximately 66.6%. This characteristic has been exploited by criminals to inflate protein levels in food, causing food safety issues. 2.
